Has your paver patio sunk?

Building a paver patio the proper way according to Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute.

There are 4 main components when building a paver patio. Please see my photos below for more details.

The base is the most crucial step in building a patio. Your contractor should excavate down approximately 7”. 4” of compacted stone and 1” compacted leveling stone. I recommend 57 and 89 but most contractors use Crush n Run and M-10 Sand.

The pavers need to be locked in with an edge restraint. Either with a concrete/mortared edge or a plastic edging. Both have advantages and disadvantages.

The pavers need polymeric sand. Sand is swept into the gaps and then compacted with a machine as well. Lightly water and the polymeric sand is hard. If it’s mushy your contractor didn’t install properly. DO NOT pressure wash your patio, it will blow the sand out of the joints and you will need to resand. If you would like to know how to properly clean your patio send me a message.

If you have downspouts near or around the patio you will want to run SOLID PVC pipe under or around the patio.
